In 2020 the factory awarded LEED Platinum Certificate. They achieved 84 out of 100 points benchmark. In 2023 they have agreed to renew their certification and in April 2025 they have awarded LEED Platinum. They have achieved 89 out of 100 credits benchmark.
The entire site of the project is 152,514 Square Feet, and the overall built-up area is 268,000 square feet. The main factory building – the seven-storey structure – occupies 41,118 square feet. The project’s construction phase began in 2013, and it began functioning in early 2017.
Karupannya’s aim is not only to revive the long lost craftmanship but also contribute to the socio-economic state of its surroundings. Rangpur is a notably conservative city comparing to the other big cities of the country. Hence, women often fall victim to patriarchal abuse. The majority of the employees in Karupannya are female, which gives an opportunity to be independent and earn a living with respect. It is not the workers that are in need, but it is Karupannya, that is dedicated in betterment of the people who work with it.
Apart from the main factory building, the complex houses a dormitory, boiler area, dying, cutting, and preparing zones, loading docks, power substation, ETP water plant as building utilities, medical centre, Grocery Shop for employees, Canteen, Prayer Rooms and ATM Booth. Adequate surface area is designated for parking various small trucks and personal vehicle, bicycle etc. For the challenge of vertical circulation, Ramp @1:12 used for walking and bicycling for the workers. Exit paths are provided according to Bangladesh National Building Code.
During any fire hazard or accident, thousands of workers can evacuate together. In the rooftop of the factory annex block, there is the ‘Nandini Park’, designed solely for the workers to sit and have their lunch. This Park is surrounded with flower plants and greenery, in order to emanate a serene ambience. The garden, a lily pond and the podium in front of the factory is for the workers to relax and unwind during their break time and after service hours. Being the symbol of women in ‘Satranji’ [Floor rug] Craft, a large sculpture named ‘Bonolota’ stands in front of the factory. Entertainment programs are arranged for the worker’s recreation on the stage named ‘Rokeya Mancha’ behind the large sculpture. Occasionally, the grand staircase at the entrance is used as audience gallery during various festivities held by the company.
